<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_3'>Well, it means that any artistic material such as written word, music, samples, film, TV, video etc etc produced by anyone belongs to them and cannot be reproduced in anyone elses work without paying royalties to that person. This means in effect, you cannot just lift parts of a film soundtrack and drop them into your track, unless it is for your own private use. If the track enters the public domain and you want to get paid for itthen, and this is very logical really, you can expect the person from whom you stole the sample to want a cut of the action. After all, you did not create it - they did! This is what is called royalties.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_2'>WHAT DOES COPYRIGHT MEAN?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_5'>As distributor of your tracks, EJ2DJ is legally responsible for collecting royalties on your behalf. It has to legally! Many of you have said.oh I dont want royalties - give them to Fest 2!! This is not as simple as it seems - what is with the law nowadays? Legally, EJ2DJ should pay all royalties directly to you and then you can do with it what you want.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_4'>WHAT HAPPENS TO MY TRACKS WHEN THEY HIT THE PUBLIC DOMAIN?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_7'>Usually this is taken as the life of the author plus 70 years - so, no you cant pinch someones music just because they died last week!!</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_6'>HOW LONG DOES COPYRIGHT LAST?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_9'>There are several ways you can get paid royalties. Whoever distributes your music is obligated by law to pay you the royalties you have agreed upon. Beyond that, there are several organisations who will collect royalties on your behalf if they are played on radio, in clubs, pubs and other venues. All royalties from the EJ2DJ projects are payable on request from the artist, once the figure reaches or exceeds £20.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_8'>HOW DO I GET MY ROYALTIES?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_11'>As soon as you have created an original work- in musical context - a mix, wav, mp3 etc or lyric set to music it is automatically copyrighted as long it is recorded or fixed in some way. However, proving your copyright is tricky. The traditional method is to mail yourself a copy of your work by registered post and leave it unopened (make sure it is well labelled as to what it is) or place it with a solicitor, bank or Stationers Hall. This only proves the work was in existence at a certain point in time - it does not prove you composed it.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_10'>HOW DO I REGISTER COPYRIGHT?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_13'>No!! But you can register with the National Band Register and it is possible to register your band name as a trademark.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_12'>CAN I COPYRIGHT MY ARTIST OR BAND NAME?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_14'>Well there are various reasons for this. Finding the right tracks is time consuming. Also getting all the required paperwork in takes time.<br />Sometimes the tracks have to be remastered or even in some cases remixed.</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_15'>WHY DO THE PROJECTS TAKE SO LONG TO COMPLETE?</div>
<div class='textboxV3' id='pgTextboxV3_16'>As long as your track is made with a greater percentage using the eJay Software, they will be accepted.</div>
